How ARCTIC Xtreme Came to Be

In the summer of 2016, I returned to a Patrol Sergeant assignment for a police agency in southern California. I was in the field on a 105-degree day. My torso and back were soaked from sweat as it always had been for the previous 2 decades when working patrol in the summer heat. Anyone working in these extreme conditions with all the gear on knows sweat begins to develop in the locker room once putting on the uniform and body armor.
I became interested in how hot the temperature was under our body armor after putting on the uniform and gear. I bought a digital thermometer that was on a thin wire. I placed it inside my vest and noted some incredible numbers over several weeks on patrol. Running the air conditioning in my patrol vehicle for 20 minutes was cooling my face and arms, but inside the middle of my vest (between the vest and my T-shirt) still read 98 degrees and the humidity read as high as 90%. Outside the unit, humidity reached as high as 99% under the body armor I was wearing. The sweat was not evaporating under my body armor because the armor simply does not breathe. Anyone who has worked patrol knows relief from this misery is only achieved when your shift is over, and your body armor and uniform are removed.
During one particular shift, I stopped at a gas station and stuck a tire air hose down the front of my uniform shirt so that I could used compressed air to help dry the sweat under my body armor. I noticed the compressed air hitting the sweat under my body armor was creating a nice chilled sensation, was helping evaporate sweat and was overall providing a more comfortable feeling under my body armor. Unfortunately, I was only able to get compressed air to a small portion of the upper chest area and knew I couldn't spend all day at a gas station. I thought to myself, "There's got to be a way for patrol officers to get air infused to the front and back of our upper bodies, under our body armor, to help evaporate some of the sweat and get the same affects I was feeling." I purchased and tried the few products that were on the market at the time that claimed to help in dealing with this issue. I returned each one as they proved very ineffective and/or uncomfortable. As much as I appreciated those who have tried to develop a product to solve the misery patrol officers experience daily, I decided to take on the challenge to find a more viable solution to this problem.

For the next 4 years, my business partner (a long time friend) and I spent years of countless hours conducting research and developing prototypes, which were then tested in the field by patrol officers for feedback. This information was then used to create several new generations of prototypes. The final product had to meet certain specific criteria before we would ever considering bringing it to market. That criteria was:

-
It had to provide instant cooling relief and helped in the evaporation of sweat on the front torso, abdomen, shoulders and back of your upper body;

-
It had to be something that could be installed and removed quickly;

-
It had to be something that was thin enough that when not in use, you didn't know you had it on;

-
It had to be effective enough to help flush out the hot and humid air trapped under the body armor.

After years of research and development, I believe this was finally accomplished !
There's no other product like it on the market today for Law Enforcement Patrol Officers !
